Republican leaders gathered in Chicago Thursday to rally behind Darren Bailey as their party's nominee for governor.

There are two main goals for the Republican leadership. The first is uniting the party.

Bailey said, "My message is, let's put the past behind us, let's forge a new future. Let's work together, make sure that we stick together, that we stick to our platform."

Bailey said that despite the establishment backing Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin in the primary, people have reached out and, like him, are ready to move forward. Bailey said, "One thing that people find in me is that I put the past behind me, I don't hold grudges."

Senate Minority Leader Dan McConchie said, "The big things that the people are talking about out there when we're hitting the doors: cost of living inflation, gas prices, crime, these are the things that they really care about. The governor is doubling down on expansive abortion."

Governor J.B. Pritzker's recent speech to Democrats in Florida hasn't gone unnoticed by Illinois Republicans, leading to speculation as to which election the governor is focused.

Bailey said, "We're going to work circles around (Pritzker) and we're going to make sure we get to the people." He added, "J.B. Pritzker has failed the people. J.B. Pritzker is not one of us."

The other goal is fundraising. Bailey often reminds voters that he is running against a billionaire.
