Ameren Illinois officials say a tree fell on power lines resulting in the lengthy electrical interruption Tuesday evening.

The tree that fell was in Effingham, north of South Willow Street near Salt Creek. A large cottonwood tree fell on the lines at 4:45pm, resulting in the interruption.

When Ameren crews arrived, they found a sizable branch on the lines. Crews removed the tree and service was completely restored at 7:08pm.

Ameren reports that 739 customers were without power in Effingham, 437 customers in Dieterich, and 77 customers in Wheeler.
