Effingham Public Library board members Monday heard that the summer reading program has exceeded its goal.

Library Director Amanda McKay reported that 1,065 people signed up for the program, above the goal of 1,020 people.

McKay reminded that July 29 will be the last day for patrons to log reading and to collect prizes they've earned.

Also Monday, the Board discussed strategic planning and were asked by McKay to research pressing issues and how those could be best addressed.

The Board formally opened an account with SC3F of Effingham to establish an endowment fund. A gift from the estate of the late Dr. Herbert Austin will get the ball rolling.
