Generators and insurance.

Those were the two chief items at Tuesday's Effingham County 911 Board meeting.

Bids were opened on a new 911 generator to replace one that has been in use since the county's 911 system began. The base bids came in at between $30,000 and $50,000, but there were also options to consider. Board members will receive copies of the bids to review and will attempt to decide on a vendor at the August meeting. The Board wants to get the generator ordered as soon as possible since it is expected to be months before the unit is received.

The insurance dealt particularly with liability issues, but also with how much in coverage it would take to replace dispatching equipment. A representative of the 911 insurance vendor will be asked to attend the August board meeting to review the current coverage.

The Board purchased an ambulance radio and agreed to pay the cost of four telecommunicators attending a state conference. Board members also were updated a decleaning of the two PSAPs. The consensus was that the decleaning should be done annually. The Board also raised the mileage reimbursement due to the increase in fuel prices. The rate was raised to 62.5 cents/mile.
