Clay County board members Tuesday were updated by Sheriff Andy Myers on use of body cameras and in-car cameras by his deputies.

The Sheriff said that the units will begin to go live in mid-August and should be fully operational by September 1. Also Tuesday, Myers was named to another term on the Clay County 911 Board.

The Clay board approved a resolution establishing the salary and reimbursement for Clay County Public Defender Chris Elliott. By state statute, the public defender is to receve at least two-thirds of the salary of the Clay County State's Attorney. There was also a discussion about a request from Jasper County on whether Clay County would share Elliott's services with their county. No decisions were reached. The issue could be revisited.

There was also discussion about residents in the Ingraham Fire Protection and whether those who live in Jasper County and in the Ingraham district could receive quicker service in the case of an emergency from Clay County. Some research may be done about which option would be best for Ingraham area residents.

Clay board members also discussed when property tax bills will go in the mail. County Treasurer Jana Tolliver said that if required tasks are completed by August 1 that the first installment could be due by September with the second installment due in October, but nothing has been finalized.
