A Central A&M High School student was killed and three more students were injured in a collision in Assumption Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at 6:17am. Two vehicles were involved including a commercial motor vehicle.

All four of the students attended Central A&M High School, which is located in Moweaqua.

Illinois District 10 State Police reported that three of those injured were airlifted to hospitals with life threatening injuries. A fourth individual was transported by ambulance to the hospital with serious injuries.

In a post, Central A&M Principal Charles Brown said that many students had been in and out of the school since it was opened to the public about 9:30am. Brown said that counselors and ministers were available to offer prayers and support to students and their families.

A state police update Tuesday evening reported that the person fatally injured was a 16-year-old boy from Assumption. The others are a 15-year-old boy from Tower Hill and a 14-year-old boy from Assumption who were reported to have life threatening injuries, and a 14-year-old boy from Assumption who was taken by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries.

State police report that a small car carrying the boys was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with US Route 51. The driver of the car, who is the boy who was fatally injured, pulled onto Route 51 and was struck by a straight truck driven by a 46-year-old man from Decatur. The driver of the straight truck was not injured.

State police had not released the names of those involved, and typically do not release the names of juveniles, although that is not the practice of every law enforcement agency.
