Effingham County Airport Commission members have agreed to seek bids on a 10-bay hangar building. The structure would replace the 45-year-old T-hangar building.

The Effingham County Board has agreed to earmark $900,000 in Federal ARPA funds to pay for the project. Effingham County Engineer Greg Koester said the new pre-engineered steel structure would be located west of the existing building, which would open up space for private hangars that would be up by customers but would be owned by the County.

Meanwhile, Commission members this week discussed the status of an extension of the east-west runway at the airport. Koester said design work on the extension has begun. The long-discussed project would extend the runway from 5,100 feet to 6,000 feet long. The County has already been targeted to receive $5 million for the project, with an estimated bid letting on the work in the Spring of 2023.
