A hearing date has been set concerning an application for a solid waste transfer station in Fayette County. The proposed site for the station is along Illinois Route 185 at the Brownstown Blacktop.

The Fayette County Board set a date for a public hearing on a site application for the station from Chris Sutter, owner of Sutter Sanitation and Countryside Disposal for August 2. The hearing will begin at 1pm and continue to as late as 6pm if testimony warrants. If more time is needed, the hearing will continue on August 3 at 9am and will go up until noon. The hearing site is the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

This will be the second time a public hearing is to be held for the proposed transfer station. In November, a public hearing was held over the course of two days on the first site application from Sutter. Following the hearing, the matter was left for the County Board to decide if the site application met the nine siting criteria set forth by the EPA. The Board did not take a vote, though, as Sutter withdrew his application with the intent to resubmit the request once addressing concerns raised at the hearing were dealt with.

Sutter did resubmit the site application in the Spring. The August hearing is the next step in the process of working towards possible approval if the County Board thinks the application meets the siting criteria.
