Members of the Effingham County Board's Legislative Committee Monday voted to name an unnamed stream.

The waterway will be called Muskrat Creek if the full Board gives the matter its blessing next week. The naming is the project of Aaron Meyers, who's family has some land in the area. The creek meanders along the south edge of Effingham and makes its way south and east to Salt Creek and ends down by Loy Chapel just northeast of Heartville. There are plenty of muskrats in the area, so the Meyers' family thought the name would be appropriate.

The federal agency that oversees such things said it was up to the County as to naming the waterway, and the Legislative Committee voted to move the matter onto the full Board.

Also Monday, committee members advanced several appointments to the full board. Those include Bill Evans to the Tri-County Fire Protection District; Ronald Voelker, Cletus Bloemer and Todd Wachtel to the Agricultural Area Board; Joe Thoele, John Beckman and Lyle Westfall to the Farmland Assessment Review Board; Natalie Bailey and Michael Tate to the Mental Health Deficient 377 Board; and Brant Yochum and Larry Thies to the 911 Board.

Those appointments will also be finalized by the County Board at next week's meeting.
