The Effingham County 911 Board agreed to work to move an antenna for ambulance services higher on the tower outside the County Office Building. The move should improve reception since it will get the antenna above the building. All of the ambulance services that could respond in case of a large-scale emergency would have improved reception. There is a statewide medical frequency that the ambulance services could utilize in such an event.

Global Technical Systems will move the antenna higher on the tower, while Motorola or their subsidiary will install the frequency on the dispatch consoles.

It was also agreed to look for a new generator. The current unit has been in place since before 911 started in the county in 1997. The cost is estimated at close to $30,000 so bids will be sought for a new unit.

The Board heard that Rural Med, the county's new 911 service provider, has three new ambulance rigs arriving, and that operations under Rural Med have been successful to this point.

The Board also got a thank you from telecommunicators for the gift cards they received for Telecommunicators Week.
