Irvin, Bailey Lead Field in Poll of Likely Republican Voters

Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin and State Senator Darren Bailey topped the field of candidates for the Republican nomination for Illinois goveror in a recent poll.

A poll conducted by WGN-TV, The Hill and Emerson College Polling showed Irvin with 24.1% support, followed by Bailey with 19.8%. The poll involved those who are likely Republican primary voters.

Suburban businessman Gary Rabine is in third place with 7.8%, closely followed by venture capitalist Jessie Sullivan with 7.3%. Attorney Max Solomon and former state senator Paul Schimpf drew just 2.3% and 1.9% support, respectively.

A WGN story indicated that there is a large group of undecided voters. About 36.9% of respondents say they are undecided about the top of the ticket.

Of those polled, Bailey had a two-to-one edge over Irvin among rural voters, but Irvin had a three-to-one edge among urban voters. Irvin had a smaller lead among suburban voters.
