Teutopolis Village Board members Wednesday discussed how to move ahead with improvements to make it easier to get to school.

Teutopolis received a Safe Routes to School grant totaling $250,000. The Village is looking at improving routes along Oak Street from Prairie View Estates into town, then along Main Street to the front door of Teutopolis Grade School.

The work will begin in Spring 2023. The Village must come up with a 20% match to receive the grant.

The Board approved design engineering and construction engineering work on the project to Milano and Grunloh Engineers of Effingham.

Board members heard from Tom Wegman of Stevens Industries on whether the Village would help with extending sidewalks along Main Street to the warehouse facility Stevens has under construction just west of the high school baseball diamond. Board members agreed to look into the request.

Also on hand were members of the Cruise Night committee. They have plans for a cruise route and a car show at the Teutopolis Banquet Hall on June 17, and wanted to make board members aware of their plans.

The Board awarded bids for stockpiled maintenance materials to 3 Sisters Logistics, and learned that all liquor licenses have been renewed for the new fiscal year, with no new licenses issued. Board members also appropriated $56,612.25 in Motor Fuel Tax funds for maintenance of streets in the coming year, and approved the appointment ordinance for the new fiscal year with no changes from the previous year.

Board members also awarded a bid for Clarity Window Cleaning to clean the windows at the Village Hall four times a year, at $225/cleaning.
