Brownstown resident Trevor McCammack Monday pleaded guilty to attempted first degree murder.

McCammack was sentenced to 26 years in prison.

The 36-year-old McCammack confessed to the shooting of David Troxell of Brownstown in September of 2019. Troxell went to a rural residence in the early morning hours and sought assistance, saying he had been shot. Troxell was taken for treatment and McCammack was taken into custody later that morning.

Judge Marc Kelly sentenced McCammack to six years in prison with the requirement he serve at least 85% of the sentence, and an additional 20 years in prison for discharging a firearm, also with a requirement he serve at least 85% of the sentence. McCammack will serve three years' mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

McCammack had waived his right to a trial by jury, and was instead scheduled to receive a bench trial before the decision to enter the guilty plea.

Charges of aggravated battery of a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm were dismissed as part of the guilty plea to the attempted murder count.
