Fire Damages Altamont Business Friday Night

Fire damaged an Altamont business Friday night.

The call came at 7:02pm to Power Up Plus, located on 300th Street on the south edge of Altamont.

Altamont Fire Chief Jon Becker said the business refurbishes power tool batteries for Milwaukee, Dewalt and other manufacturers of battery-powered tools. Becker said videotape shows that a battery spontaneously ignited and that ignited other batteries, resulting in a fire that caused substantial damage to the southeast corner of the building. A neighbor spotted the fire when it burned through the front door. The fire also went through the roof.

No one was injured. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:27pm.
