(DEPUTY SEAN RILEY)

The man who shot to death a Wayne County sheriff's deputy in late December has been sentenced to natural life in prison without parole.

40-year-old Ray Tate shot Deputy Sean Riley five times before fleeing in the deputy's patrol car. Body cam footage was shown during Tate's sentencing hearing. The sentencing hearing lasted about three hours Friday.

Tate still faces charges in Missouri for offenses he allegedly committed later the day of the deputy's shooting. Tate then returned to the Metro East area where he was apprehended following a standoff at a residence.

Tate will serve his sentence at Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet.
