(MATTOX)

Dundas resident Michael Mattox pleaded guilty Thursday to a count of first degree murder in connection with the death of two women in Olney in December.

The 60-year-old Mattox was charged with two counts of murder and a count of aggravated battery in a public place after the pickup truck he was driving proceeded through the intersection of North Avenue and West Street in Olney just before 8pm on December 26. The pickup truck struck and killed 48-year-old DeAnn Richardson and 69-year-old Judy Jourdan, both of Olney. The women were standing on the patio of Deuce's Wild Saloon.

In exchange for the guilty plea to one murder charge, the other murder count and the aggravated battery count were dismissed. Mattox faces a potential sentence of 20 to 60 years in prison, plus three years' mandatory supervised release once out of prison. Mattox agreed that he will have to serve 100% of whatever prison term he receives.

Mattox is to be sentenced on August 29. He will remain in custody in Richland County Jail until his sentencing.
