Apartment Fire In Altamont

Altamont Fire department was called to an apartment building at 11 West Kanak Street on the South end of Altamont at approximately 9:40 Friday morning.

Heavy smoke and flames were reported to be coming from a window of apartment number four of the east building of the complex. The fire quickly spread to apartment three as smoke was also pushed throughout the entire building.

Altamont called for a full still bringing Edgewood, Shumway, and St. Elmo Fire Departments to supply additional manpower and water to the scene. A1 Ambulance and Abbot EMS along with Altmont Police Department and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department also responded.

As of this time no injuries were reported and all residents in the building were evacuated and accounted for.
