A person has been taken into custody in connection with a stabbing death that occurred in Effingham early Tuesday morning. 51-year old Charles Douglas Yoder of Beecher City was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, and formal charges are pending.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday afternoon at 1pm on the victim, 52-year-old Ted L. Debany of Effingham. The preliminary cause of death was consistent with injuries that occurred during the altercation.
City police were called to 109 Lincoln Street about 2am regarding the incident. Debany was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead. Police said Debany was a resident of the house where the incident occurred.
Effingham City Police told us Tuesday evening that charges against Yoder are pending, and awaiting review by the Effingham County State's Attorney's office.
The Effingham Police Department, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services and the Effingham County Coroner's Office are continuing their investigation into Debany's death.
