Watson Teenager Injured in Thursday Crash

A Watson teenager was injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened in the area known as "The Tunnels" just outside Effingham. Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports 16-year-old Lillian Gabel was southbound on 1200th Avenue, just east of 1175 Street. Gabel was negotiating a curve to the right, to enter the tunnel under northbound Interstate 57. Gabel drove off the road to the left, struck an embankment with the left front corner of the vehicle, and overturned. Gabel's vehicle came to rest on its top in the roadway.

The incident happened at 4:40pm. Gabel was taken for treatment to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
