Salem Pedestrian Fatally Injured When Struck by Minivan Driven by Kinmundy Woman

A Salem pedestrian was fatally injured after being struck by a minivan driven by a Kinmundy resident Saturday night.

The incident happened just after 10pm when the minivan driven by 28-year-old Courtney Gunnels of Kinmundy struck the pedestrian identified as 23-year-old Hailey Budde of Salem.

State police report Budde was walking northbound in the southbound lane of Illinois Route 37, south of Oakwood Street in Salem. Gunnels attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid striking Budde. Budde was taken for treatment, but later died of her injuries.

No citations were issued.
