Three People Arrested on Class X Felony Drug Charges

Two Santa Maria, California men and a Salem, Oregon woman were arrested in Effingham County Saturday on drug charges.

Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation South Eastern Illinois Drug Task Force agents arrested 29-year-old Delia Gonzalez-Salgado, 28-year-old Roberto Morales-Moreno, and 24-year-old Elder Ramirez-Bautista on a Class X Felony charge of cannabis trafficking more than 5,000 grams.

Just after 9am Saturday, a District 12 Illinois State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop on I-70 eastbound near Mile Post 90 for traffic violations. Consent to search the vehicle was received, and suspected cannabis was found inside. SEIDTF agents interviewed the occupants of the vehicle and during the course of the investigation all three occupants were arrested for cannabis trafficking.

The three have each been charged with possession with intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams of cannabis and cannabis trafficking more than 5,000 grams. Gonzalez-Salgado and Morales-Morento received additional charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The three are being held in Effingham County Jail on a bond set at $100,000. 

The Task Force is comprised of the Salem Police Department, the Effingham County Sheriff's Department, the Robinson Police Department, and the Illinois State Police. The agencies work together to curb drug usage and violence in the area.
