Jasper County State's Attorney Chad Miller has been appointed Resident Circuit Judge for Jasper County, which is in the 4th Judicial Circuit.

The appointment was announced by Justice David Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court. Miller will succeed Judge Daniel Hartigan, who retired as of January 30. Miller's appointment will commence March 4 and conclude December 5. An individual will be elected to the position in the November 8th balloting.

Miller has served as Jasper County State's Attorney since 2015. Prior to that, he was in private practice as an associate attorney at the law offices of Bob Dunst in Mattoon for three years. He served as an Assistant State's Attorney first in Hamilton County and then in the Coles County State's Attorney's Office from 2009 to 2012.

Miller said, "I am honored by this appointment and would like to thank Justice Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court. I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Jasper County and the 4th Judicial Circuit in this new role."

Miller earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and his Juris Doctorate from the SIU School of Law.

The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses Jasper, Effingham, Clay, Fayette, Shelby, Christian, Clinton, Marion, and Montgomery counties.
