Details were released by Illinois State Police on the crash Thursday morning south of Effingham that resulted with a vehicle wedged under the trailer of a semi.

The crash was reported at 10:13am on I-57 northbound at Milepost 156, near where I-57 merges with eastbound I-70.

Police report a semi driven by 31-year-old Coty Tolliver of Grayson, Kentucky, had been involved in a previous crash and was stopped on the shoulder of the roadway in backed up traffic. A truck driven by 38-year-old Diego Valdez of Pharr, Texas, in an attempt to avoid other traffic, went onto the shoulder and rear-ended the trailer of Tolliver's semi, wedging his vehicle under the semi trailer.

Further information indicates that both Tolliver and Valdez were taken with injuries to be treated.

Valdez was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
