It was a cold evening for Greenup residents Saturday after gas service was disrupted to homes and businesses. In a Facebook post, Mayor Tom Bauguss said service had been disrupted due to a break in the gas main near Neoga.

Crews were working to repair the line, and had service restored just before midnight.

Greenup utility workers started going door to door throughout the town at midnight to light pilot lights on furnaces, stoves, and water heaters. Residents who were not at home will find a note on their door with instructions on who to call to get their home checked.

Mayor Bauguss praised the work of village employees and volunteers, who, with temps below freezing, spent much of the overnight hours combing the town to get service restored. He also thanked Greenup's IGA for opening its doors to feed firefighters and volunteers.
