City Police, Unit 40 Aware of Tik Tok Threat for Friday

Effingham city police have released a statement regarding a threat on the social media site Tik Tok concerning schools.

Here's the statement from city police:

"The Effingham Police Department is aware of a threat circulating on TikTok regarding school shootings and bomb threats at every school in the country on Friday, December 17th, 2021. This threat does not specifically list any state or location. There is no credible information that this threat is in any way related to a school within the State of Illinois. The Effingham Police Department patrols our school grounds daily and will continue to do so. We encourage our community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, regardless of where it occurs."

Effingham Unit #40 Superintendent Mark Doan issued a similar statement today. The statement follows:

"Earlier today, all school Districts across the country were made aware of a threat posted on Tik Tok. The threat does not specify a state or location and there is no credible information that this threat is, in any way, related to Unit #40 schools. Effingham Unit #40 has a wonderful working relationship with the Effingham Police Department. We work together to keep our students and staff safe on a daily basis. The District held discussions with the Effingham Police Department regarding an increased presence on Friday, December 17th . The Unit #40 family can help by reporting any activities suspicious in nature to the Effingham Police. Our students and staff’s safety are our priority and ask for the public’s help."
