Effingham city council members have passed the levy for the coming fiscal year. The measure calls for a 3% reduction in the levy from last year. Due to the increase in value of land in the city, the levy will still generate about $21,000 more in property taxes than the previous year.

The Council approved the sale of land for capital improvements in the area of John Boos and Company, purchase exercise equipment for the city police station that was paid with funds raised by city police officers, purchased a generator for the waste water treatment plant, and appointed retired Sheriff Dave Mahon as a member of the City Fire and Police Commission, succeeding Jerry Steppe.

Council members were also updated on plans to improve the intersection of Evergreen and Willenborg in 2022, related to the planned construction of a Quik Trip facility along Technology Drive. Director of Public Works Jeremy Heuerman said placement of a box culvert to further the work is projected for 2023.
