A semi-truck overturned, one of two accidents Friday morning on I-57 near Farina

Around 7:15 am Friday, a semi rolled over on I-57 near Farina blocking both southbound lanes causing traffic to back up. Details on the crash have not yet been released by ISP.

As result, traffic was stopped in southbound lanes, which police say led to a second crash at 7:23 am.

25-year old Jacob Walker of Hoyelton, IL was airlifted from the scene with serious injures after his vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer driven by 46-year old Michael Wilson of Plant City, Florida. Wilson's rig was stopped in traffic due to the earlier crash.

Wilson was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Farina Fire Department, Fayette County Sherriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, RuralMed EMS, and a medivac helicopter have all responded to the scene.
