Effingham resident Dylan Bovay has been sentenced to probation and jail time following an incident at an Effingham residence in August. The 37-year-old Bovay reportedly threatened to set the residence on fire.

City police officers were called to a residence in the 1200 block of South 3rd Street on August 16. The call came regarding an individual identified as Bovay spraying lighter fluid all over the house and threatening to ignite it. As officers arrived, Bovay was driving a vehicle through a yard and across a ditch. Police say Bovay then returned to the residence, exited the vehicle, and laid on the concrete. After being arrested, Bovay started to resist and assault officers.

Bovay was placed on four years' probation for aggravated battery to a peace officer and was sentenced to 180 days in jail.
