State Police Finalize Details on Fatal Crash Near Kinmundy

Illinois State Police have finalized their investigation into a fiery fatal crash that occurred over the weekend near Kinmundy.

31-year-old Nicholas Carroll of Kinmundy was killed in the crash, which was reported at 12:03am Saturday. The crash happened on Kinmundy Road, just south of Pleasant Grove Road.

Police say Carroll's car was northbound when the car left the roadway to the left and struck the guardrail end of a bridge spanning Dums Creek. The car went airborne and landed upside down on the north embankment, then caught fire and was destroyed.

Carroll's body was later discovered inside the vehicle.
