Altamont Resident Injured in Crash Thursday Morning

An Altamont resident was airlifted for treatment following a crash that occurred Thursday morning.

73-year-old Kelly Newburn was traveling westbound on US Route 40, just east of 970th Street when the crash occurred at 10:40am. A witness told Effingham County Sheriff's deputies that Newburn's vehicle slowly crossed over into the eastbound lane and continued off the roadway to the south. Newburn's vehicle struck the ditch and overturned at least one and a half times before coming to rest on the driver's side.

Newburn was taken from the scene to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for treatment.
