Mattoon resident Jimmy Derixson has pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of child pornography and has been sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison as part of a negotiated plea in Coles County Circuit Court.

The 44-year-old Derixson was originally charged with six counts of possession of child pornography in June of 2020, as well as failure to register as a sex offender. Another two dozen counts were filed, involving either photos or videos, in April of this year.

A tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted Mattoon police to investigate Derixson. The tip alleged Derixson had uploaded child pornography. A search of Derixson's cell phone revealed images of child pornography.

Derixson pled guilty to five counts and was sentenced to four years in prison on each of those counts. The sentences will be served consecutively, not together. He must also pay a $1,000 fine plus other fines and costs on each count. He will also serve three years to natural life of mandatory supervised release once out of prison.

Derixson will also undergo sex offender treatment while in prison.
