Coroner Releases Information on Recent Deaths

Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey has released additional information on two death investigations by his office.

Guffey released information concerning the February 11 death of 30-year-old Jonathan Wernsing of Effingham.  Wernsing was found unresponsive in his residence by a family member.  The initial investigation did not disclose a likely cause of death and no foul play was suspected.  An autopsy was conducted February 13.  The final autopsy report indicates Wernsing died of natural causes.  All toxicology tests came back negative.

Guffey also shared information on the March 4 death of 56-year-old Dickie Kelly, who was found by a neighbor unresponsive in his residence.  An autopsy was conducted March 5.  The final autopsy report indicates Kelly died of natural causes.  Toxicology tests were negative.
