The Dieterich Board of Education acted on its Return to School Plan for the coming school year. The action came at a special meeting Thursday night, and followed the Board's regular monthly meeting earlier this week that was attended by 28 district residents. Several of those residents opposed the idea of students wearing masks at school.
The Board decided that masks will be recommended, not required, for indoor use by all individuals two and older who are not fully immunized. Masks will be required on all school transportation, per an order by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Board also decided that social distancing should be practiced whenever possible.
The Dieterich board also approved a return to a regular full day schedule of 8:25am to 3:25pm, and decided that remote learning will not be offered unless ordered to do so by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Dieterich board members also decided that all extracurricular activities will resume.
More extensive guidelines are available from the Dieterich school district.
Also Thurday, the Dieterich board hired Nicole Flood and Lauren Garbe as co-head high school volleyball coaches, and approved Frank Niemerg and Rob Schottman as volunteer junior high baseball coaches.
