Local authorities have apprehended a "person of interest" in a burglary that occurred in the Neoga area earlier today.
The man was located in the north part of Effingham County, north of Effingham, in an area between 1975th Avenue and 1800th Avenue and between 1300th Street and 1400th Street.
The interactive map below shows the approximate area police are referring to.
Effingham County Sheriff's Sergeant Paul Kuhns said the suspect has been apprehended "due to the help of several local citizens" who gave authorities information as to the man's whereabouts.
Kuhns notified our newsroom just before 4pm that the man was wanted for questioning and included a description and the man's suspected whereabouts. We aired the information and residents of the affected area began to contact authorities with tips. The man was spotted, a chase ensued, and the man was taken into custody about 5:30pm without incident.
Kuhns also credited Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police, Effingham County Sheriff's Department and Effingham City Police Department for their joint efforts in making the apprehension.
Two people are already in custody in Cumberland County Jail in connection with the burglary. No word is available at this time as to what was burgled or who are the individuals in custody.
