Effingham city officials are advising citizens of a number of capital improvement projects now underway.

Esker and Walker Construction is in the midst of the 2021 citywide sidewalk replacement project. Motorists are asked to be aware of traffic control and to use caution when going through a worksite.

Senco Construction is replacing storm sewer on South Lakewood Street in Rollin Hills Subdivision. The road will be closed due to construction, so alternate routes to Effingham Rehabilitation and Health Care Center will need to be taken. Please be alert for traffic control devices and signage.

Street resurfacing is underway. Effingham Asphalt has started milling streets including Newman, Flame, Flamingo and Beckman, located between Holiday Drive and Evergreen Avenue (the hammerhead deadends off of Maple Street), along with with the frontage road by Hardee's Restaurant, on Front Street downtown between Banker Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Effingham Asphalt began putting back the asphalt on those roadways through today. They will be handing out notices to affected residents. The roadways will be closed to allow for the roadway to cool. You're aske to use caution and to mind traffic control devices and signage.

Work is underway on the resurfacing of Temple Avenue from Keller Drive to Merchant Street. Manhole lids and water valves were removed to allow for milling the street. The milling and paving operations will be done at night between 6pm and 6am starting Monday. You're asked to take an alternate route if possible and if you must take Temple, please expect delays.

The 2021 pavement preservation project has a tentative start date of July 12. Denler Incorporated will be putting on a road treatment coat, and the affected streets will be shut down for a 24-hour period to allow the treatment to cure. The City will send out notices to affected residents, and the contractor will hand out a final notice along with a schedule for the roads to receive its treatment.
