(RETIRED SHERIFF DAVID MAHON IS FLANKED BY NEW SHERIFF PAUL KUHNS AND NEW CHIEF DEPUTY SHERIFF LARRY FINFROCK)

Paul Kuhns was officially sworn in as Effingham County Sheriff Tuesday afternoon. Kuhns succeeds David Mahon, who retired. Kuhns, who had been serving as Mahon's chief deputy, named Larry Finfrock of Altamont as his chief deputy.

Kuhns had been one of two individuals who expressed interest in the position when Mahon announced his retirement plans. He was recommended for the post by the Effingham County Republican Central Committee and was approved for the post by the Effingham County Board at a special meeting last week.

After being sworn in to office by Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel, Kuhns said, "I promise to put the needs of my office and the county ahead of my own needs."

Mahon said, "What better way to finish my term in office than turning things over to Paul and Larry."

Our interview with Sheriff Kuhns from last week's selection story is still available on the local newspage of our website. Our Greg Sapp spoke with Chief Deputy Finfrock following Tuesday's ceremony...
