Fayette County Authorities Investigate Emergency Airport Landing

An emergency landing at Vandalia Municipal Airport Friday led to minor injuries to, and an arrest of, the pilot.

The incident was reported about 8:45pm to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. The department was told of a plane crash south of the airport. Sheriff's deputies and Vandalia police responded and located the pilot, 40-year-old Dustin Brewer, was told authorities the plane lost power while he was attempting to land at the airport.

Brewer was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia for treatment of minor injuries. Brewer was cited for operating an aircraft while under the influence.

Fayette County Sheriff Chris Palmer said officers were assisted at the scene by the Vandalia Fire Department. The matter is under investigation by the sheriff's department, along with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
