Dieterich resident Scott Langford was sentenced Tuesday on a Class X felony count of being an armed habitual criminal.

(LANGFORD)

The 37-year-old Langford was charged in an October 2017 incident where witnesses told police he fired a shot at them while they were present inside a residence. The case went to trial in August 2020 where Langford was found guilty on the Class X count, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and possession of ammunition by a felon.

There were several delays in the sentencing. Eventually, prosecutors agreed to a cap on the sentence for Langford of 20 years in prison and the Court agreed to the cap.

During the Tuesday hearing, Judge Martin Siemer sentenced Langford to 13 years in prison on the habitual criminal count, as well as 10 years in prison on the aggravated discharge of a firearm count, and four years in prison on the reckless discharge of a firearm count. The weapons possession sentences were included in the sentence for the habitual criminal sentence.

The sentences will run concurrent. Langford will be on mandatory supervised release once out of prison, and was given credit for more than a year in jail awaiting disposition of his case.
