Covid Vaccine 2021

Members of the Effingham County Board's Health Committee Tuesday learned that a little over 26% of county residents have been fully immunized against COVID-19.

The Effingham County Health Department's Karen Feldkamp said 19,297 vaccinations have been received, and 9,075 people have been fully vaccinated.

Both the state and federal goals for "herd immunity" is 80%.

Deena Mosburger of the Health Department did say that the county is in the upper 25% of the state as far as the percentage of those residents who are fully vaccinated.

Health Department Administrator Jeff Workman said the same guidelines are in place as have been all along; wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands frequently.

The Health Department will have a first and second dose Moderna drive-thru clinic this Thursday from 9am to noon. The Department advises those ages 18 and older to make an appointment to get vaccinated. Appointments can be booked at www.effcohealth.org

Effingham County rolling test positivity was 2.3% through May 1.
