Zoning Board of Appeals Grants Fence Variance

The Effingham Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday approved a fence variance for property at 809 North Merchant Street.

Jeff Pruitt owns a property that fronts on Merchant, but also has access off Jones Street, which functions as an alley but is a regularly mapped and platted street. The setback for a fence is typically 20 feet from a street, but 10 feet from an alley.

The Board of Appeals ruled that a 10 foot setback would be suitable as Pruitt requested. There have been similar variances granted for other properties in the same situation.
