A car stolen overnight from Hosick Motors in Vandalia has been recovered and returned to the dealership.

Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray said an officer was on patrol and spotted the car traveling through town. The officer realized he had seen the car parked at the dealership when he had been by there a short time earlier. Ray said the officer gave chase until the stolen vehicle headed onto I-70, and the pursuit was terminated.

Ray said the vehicle was found about 1:30am parked and abandoned along the roadway. Authorities recovered the car, processed it for evidence, and then returned it to the dealership apparently no worse for wear.

Police are searching for the thief.
