A Granite City man has agreed to plead guilty to counts of felony theft and of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle in Fayette County.

38-year-old Kenneth Weldon was arrested last October following a chase while he was driving a stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been taken from the Vernon area. Police eventually had to pursue Weldon on foot before they took him into custody. A K9 search was also involved in Weldon's apprehension.

The theft of the subject vehicle followed the theft of a pickup truck in Vernon the night before. Authorities were also seeking Weldon at the time for similar offenses in Marion County.

Weldon has agreed to an open plea of guilty, but the State has agreed to cap on Weldon's sentence of not more than 20 years in prison.

Weldon is due to be sentenced on June 1.
