Altamont city council members this week discussed infrastructure projects.

The Council approved an agreement with South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission for work to set up a Tax Increment Financing district. Also approved was a feasibility study on the district. The agreement will cost $17,000 and will involve land recently purchased by the City south off Illinois Route 128.

Altamont council members also approved a Home Occupation permit for a brass reconditioning and sales business for Timothy Alig at 6 Sherman Drive; and discussed utilizing Rebuild Illinois funds. The first project targeted for the more than $157,000 in grant money is for street and sidewalk improvements on North 3rd Street near the pharmacy and the post office. The work has not yet been finalized.

The Council approved a professional services agreement with Milano and Grunloh Engineers of Effingham on proposed sanitary sewer improvements. The work would be in the northwest section of Altamont and would involve both replacing and relining portions of sewer, utilizing grant funds.

Council members also purchased property at 100 Oak Street for a water main easement. The easement will be utilized for some of the water main work to run from the water tower north and through the intersection of US Route 40 and Illinois Route 128. Also approved were three roadside fundraiser requests, including Poppy Days on June 4, Tootsie Pop Day on June 12, and an event for Big Brothers Big Sisters on August 6.
