A Fayette County man has died due to injuries received in a Monday afternoon crash.
49-year-old Jay R McConkey of Loogootee was fatally injured in a crash at 4:30pm on a rural road one mile east of the St. James community, which is located south of St. Elmo. State police say McConkey's pickup truck ran off the road to the right and traveled several hundred feet before coming back across the road and off to the left, overturning several times in a field. McConkey was ejected from the vehicle.
McConkey was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 5:30pm.
The crash is being investigated by the Effingham County Coroner's Office, since McConkey was pronounced dead at St. Anthony's. District 12 Illinois State Police are assisting in the investigation.
