27-year-old Cody L. Laue and 22-year-old Shyanne L. McCarty, both of Effingham, were arrested after a van in which they were traveling was found to contain the substances.
An Effingham County deputy stopped a van driven by Joshua Mayberry of Effingham near Fayette Avenue Saturday afternoon. It was learned that Mayberry was driving on a revoked license.
Effingham City Police K9 Siren was present at the traffic stop and conducted a free-air sniff of the exterior of the van, indicating the presence of illegal narcotics. A search of the vehicle turned up several items of drug paraphernalia, suspected to be methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

Laue and McCarty were arrested. A search was also conducted at Laue and McCarty's local motel room, where additional narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered.
Laue and McCarty made their first court appearance Monday. They were each charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The two are being held in Effingham County Jail. Laue's bond was set at $250,000, while McCarty's bond was set at $150,000.
Mayberry was released from custody on a notice to appear for driving while his license is revoked.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Effingham City Police Department, the Effingham County State's Attorney's Office, and the South Central Illinois Drug Task Force.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Department released the following statement: "We are pleased to work with other area law enforcement to remove this Fentanyl from our community. Fentanyl is a dangerous drug that can be fatal in very small doses. People who use illegal drugs may not be aware the drug they are ingesting may contain Fentanyl. The Effingham County Sheriff's Department alone administered three separate doses of NARCAN last week to suspected drug overdose victims."
