New Sheriff in Town in Fayette County

Congratulations to Chris Palmer, who is now Fayette County Sheriff.

Palmer took office Thursday, succeeding Chris Smith who retired after serving more than six years. Smith had indicated his plans to retire earlier, and that was part of the thinking when he named Palmer Chief Deputy.

Palmer joined the sheriff's department after working in the security industry and also with the Bomb Squad at the state level.

Smith's term was to end in 2022. Palmer will serve until then, and then can seek election to the office.
