Jasper County Board members Wednesday decided to proceed with construction of a Law Enforcement Center. The vote was 8-4 in favor of moving ahead with the project.

Grunloh Building of Effingham, the low bidder, was awarded the project for $3,925,000. The cost will be reduced by $58,000 after the Board decided to completely demolish the existing facility. Building on the site from the ground up was a less-costly option.

Grunloh's bid was that the project will take 364 days to complete. Their bid was the low of five that were received.

While the project is being completed, jail inmates will be farmed out to other counties and the sheriff's office will be housed at other facilities.
