Eastbound I-70 is open again after two crashes in Cumberland County Tuesday afternoon.

The first crash occurred at 2:30pm about three miles west of Casey or seven miles east of Greenup. Police report a two-vehicle crash, one of which was a semi tractor trailer combination. One person was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries.

A few minutes after the crash, the eastbound lanes were partially closed for an investigation of the crash and to land the helicopter that airlifted the injured person from the scene.

The eastbound lanes at that location were re-opened at 4:22pm.

Meanwhile, a seven-unit crash involving six semi tractor trailer combinations and a passenger vehicle occurred on I-70 eastbound, two miles west of Greenup. That crash was reported about 4:41pm.

Two people were transported with injuries from the scene, one by helicopter, to an area hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Just before 5pm, the eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed at that location for the traffic investigation and to land the helicopter. Eastbound traffic was being routed off I-70 at the Montrose interchange to the Greenup interchange, where motorists could get back onto the interstate.

Illinois State Police are reporting all lanes of I-70 were reopened at approximately 6am today.
