The crime reform bill approved by the Illinois General Assembly during the fall veto session earlier this month has drawn much attention, and much criticism from those in the law enforcement committee.

The measure, House Bill 3653, contained 764 pages and was acted on in the early morning hours less than an hour after legislators received the package. Greg Sapp sat down Tuesday afternoon and talked with Effingham County Sheriff Dave Mahon about the measure. Mahon is still reviewing various provisions of the measure, but has concerns that some portions of the legislation will actually discourage some from pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Here's their conversation...

The Illinois Sheriff's Association, the Illinois Federation of Chiefs of Police, and the Fraternal Order of Police in Illinois all opposed the legislation.
