Neoga school board members this month discussed a Tax Increment Financing district in the city of Neoga, as well as facility needs in the school district.

TIF Districts are created to allow keeping the increase in taxes generated in the district for use on projects in the district. Since those funds stay in the TIF district rather going to the other taxing bodies, the community that forms the TIF district typically gives some of those funds back to the other taxing bodies for use on projects. That's why the school board discussed facility needs, and where the funds could best be used.

The Neoga board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Effingham Regional Career Academy. Various courses are being offered through the academy and the number of courses is to grow. The intergovermental agreement would allow for the request of grant funds to help finance construction of an academy building to be located near the Lake Land College Kluthe Center in Effingham.

Neoga board members also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Neoga Teachers Association related to the pandemic, approved Jeanne Unzicker as a short-term speech pathologist substitute, and approved a retirement letter from Maureen Letizia effective with the 2024-2025 school year.
